Are you constantly pushing your glasses back up your nose? Do you ever have to hold your glasses in place when looking down at something? Have you ever wished you could tape your glasses to the bridge of your nose? We get it. It’s frustrating when your glasses are always trying to slide off your face. Fortunately, you may be able to fix the problem with a simple adjustment. First, you’ll need to figure out why it’s happening. Then, depending on the cause, you may be able to quickly solve the problem — or you may prefer to purchase a new pair of glasses. Scroll down to learn how to keep glasses from slipping down your nose.
Why Do Your Glasses Slip Down Your Nose?
Continually needing to push your glasses up your nose can be frustrating, distracting, and downright irritating — not to mention the fact that it will impact your vision! Many different issues can cause your glasses to slip and slide:
- A loose screw in one of the hinges
- Crooked frames
- Too-big frames
- Too-heavy frames
- Sweat or oil (due to your skin’s natural oils, exercise, cooking, etc.)
- Humidity
Plus, some glasses tend to loosen up with daily wear and may occasionally require tightening to keep them comfortable and secure on your nose.
Try to identify the reason why your glasses keep falling down your nose. If the cause isn’t clear, visit your glasses provider. They can check the hinges and advise you regarding the frames’ size, weight, and general condition.
How to Keep Your Glasses in Place
The solution will depend on the cause, of course, but the following tips are common fixes for those with glasses that simply won’t stay put:
- Choose your next pair of glasses with care. Ask your optician for help with the size, and consider selecting more lightweight frames. Your glasses should be snug yet comfortable and shouldn’t pinch your nose. In addition, explore frames with flexible arms, which you can customize to fit your face.
- Ask your optician to tighten the screws in the hinges. You might also wish to buy a simple glasses repair kit so that you can tighten the screws yourself whenever they loosen.
- Adjust the nose pads. If they’re worn out and no longer working properly, you may need to replace them entirely.
- Add silicone nose pads if your frames don’t currently have nose pads.
- Ask your optician to check the fit of the temples. If they don’t fit over your ears properly, they won’t hold your glasses in place.
- Consider purchasing wear grips (sometimes called temple tips), which fit over the earpieces to keep the glasses in place.
- If your glasses keep sliding while you’re exercising, purchase an eyeglass band that fits around the back of your head. This is also a handy purchase if you frequently lose your glasses!
- Buy glasses wax or plain beeswax and place a small amount on the bridge of your frames to keep them from sliding down your nose. When you take your glasses off at the end of the day, be sure to clean both your glasses and face.
- If your glasses are crooked, visit your optician to have them adjusted.
- Clean your glasses regularly to remove oil and sweat.
- Use an oil-free cleanser or another skincare product to help with excess oil production.
Although we recommend that you find a long-term solution, if you’re frustrated right now and want a temporary solution, you could try wrapping rubber bands or hair ties around the ends of the temples of your frames. They’ll be hidden behind your ears and will help the glasses remain in place.
